This is important information for elite runners:
- Middle distance – M/W18E, M/W20E & M/W21E
- Long distance – M/W20E & M/W21E
While most competitors must punch at the start before they begin their courses, as normal, elites have seeded start times. They must not punch the start box. Instead, they will be timed from the time that they are scheduled to begin.
If an elite competitor is late for his/her start time, the following procedure will apply:
- If the competitor is late by less than half the interval to the next competitor, he/she will be started on the long beep for the next minute.
- If the competitor is late by more than half the interval to the next competitor, he/she will be started half way between the next two competitors. If that slot is already allocated to another late competitor, he/she will be allocated the next free half-slot.
If a competitor is late due to actions of the organisers, he/she may make an appeal to use their actual start time, rather than their allocated start time.
As always, it is a competitor’s responsibility to ensure that they have cleared their SI card before starting. Failing to clear your card may lead to disqualification.
